Education:graduated from the Stavropol State Medical Institute in 1977, specializing in General Medicine. Completed an internship in therapy at the Cherkessk City Hospital, and professional retraining in the specialty Therapy at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies (1979). Has a certificate in gastroenterology (2014).
Dissertation Defense:In 2000, he defended his PhD thesis in the specialty of “Internal Medicine” on the topic of “Helicobacter-dependent diseases among the peoples of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.”
In 2007, he defended his doctoral dissertation in the specialty of "Internal Medicine" on the topic of "Chronic atrophic gastritis and the problem of screening for precancerous changes in the gastric mucosa." He holds the academic degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.
Research interests:Internal medicine, gastroenterology, pathophysiology, genetics, precancerous pathology.
Author of 76 scientific publications, 2 patents for invention in the Russian Federation.
General information
The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases was established in 2014. From 2014 to the present, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department Sergei Mikhailovich Kotelevets.
The Department of Internal Medicine trains specialists with higher education in the specialty 060101 “General Medicine”.
Work in the clinical disciplines section is carried out on the basis of the leading healthcare institutions in the region: the Karachay-Cherkess Republican Clinical Hospital, the Cherkessk City Clinical Hospital.
Currently, the department employs 13 teachers: 1 doctor and 6 candidates of medical sciences.
The priority task of the Department of Internal Medicine is to improve the quality of education and the level of training of graduates with an active life position and high creative potential, capable of further educational development throughout their lives.
The scientific direction of the department consists of the development and implementation of modern methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive tract, as well as combined pathology.
Educational, research and practical work.The necessary conditions have been created for conducting the educational and pedagogical process using modern teaching methods, the latest achievements of science and practice. Clinical and pathological conferences, seminars, symposia, scientific and practical conferences and other events are held to improve the efficiency of the educational and medical-diagnostic processes and the introduction of new medical technologies.
When senior students work at the patient's bedside, the main task of the department's teachers is to teach future doctors to formulate a diagnosis in several possible variants with their justification. The student's ability to see the features of the clinical course of a disease, to understand how concomitant diseases affect the patient's condition, and to formulate the main diagnosis for a specific patient is the leading goal of training in a therapeutic clinic, determining subsequent medical tactics and the correct choice of drug therapy.
Each employee of the department conducts career guidance work among students of secondary schools of the republic and the medical college to increase their interest in acquiring the noble and humane profession of a doctor.
In addition to the academic workload, the department staff conducts medical and consultative work at clinical sites. Due to the favorable psychological atmosphere at the department sites, special friendliness towards students, it is possible to train specialists, taking into account their opinion, with a comprehensive discussion of complex diagnostic clinical cases with them, developing the basics of clinical thinking in students.
The staff of the department currently continues to master new types of scientific and pedagogical activity and continuously improves its work on training highly qualified personnel both for practical health care and for scientific work in the medical industry. Working in the scientific and pedagogical field, the staff of the department devotes its strength and knowledge to the noble cause of protecting public health, considering this its primary duty.
Methodical work
Scientific and educational activities are inextricably linked with methodological work - preparation and publication of monographs, teaching aids, methodological recommendations, information letters on internal medicine, gastroenterology, the digestive system, etc.
Research work.
The main focus of the department's scientific work is the study of the characteristics of the course and treatment of gastrointestinal tract diseases and precancerous pathology.
The scientific direction corresponds to the profile of training doctors in the specialty - medical care. Scientific research is conducted both within the framework of initiative work and financed from various sources. In different years, the department staff presented reports, took part in the work of Russian and international symposiums, congresses, conventions, conferences.
Over the past 5 years, the staff of the Department of Internal Medicine have published more than 100 printed works (monographs, articles in the central, regional, local press, educational and teaching aids). The rating of scientific activity of the department's teachers is analyzed annually, including the citation of their works in the works of other authors.
The staff of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases take an active part in international, all-Russian congresses, symposia and conferences; regional and interuniversity conferences and seminars; interactive seminars; international, republican and regional exhibitions.
Student research is conducted under the supervision of experienced teachers. Students actively participate in scientific conferences.
