Head of Department: Sergey Mikhaylovich Kotelevets, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Honorary Doctor of the Karachaevo-Cherkessian Republic, Doctor of the highest qualification category.
Education: Graduated from Stavropol State Medical Institute in 1977 with a degree in General Medicine. He completed an internship in therapy at the Cherkessky City Hospital, and professional retraining in therapy at the Azerbaijan State Medical University (1979). Has a certificate in gastroenterology (2014).
Dissertation defense: In 2000, he defended his PhD thesis on "Internal Medicine" on the topic "Helicobacter-related diseases in the people of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic.
In 2007, he defended his doctoral dissertation in the specialty "Internal Medicine" on "Chronic atrophic gastritis and the problem of screening for precancerous changes in the gastric mucosa". She has an academic degree of Doctor of Medicine.
Area of Scientific Interest: Internal medicine, gastroenterology, pathophysiology, genetics, precancerous pathology.
Author of 76 scientific publications, 2 patents for invention in the Russian Federation.

General Information
The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine was established in 2014. From 2014 to the present time the department is headed by Sergey Mikhailovich Kotelevets, Doctor of medical sciences, professor of the department.
The Department of Internal Medicine trains specialists with higher education in the specialty 060101 "General Medicine".
Work in the section of clinical disciplines is carried out on the basis of the region's leading health care institutions: the Karachay-Cherkessia Republican Clinical Hospital, the Cherkessia City Clinical Hospital.
Currently, the department employs 13 faculty members: 1 doctor and 6 candidates of medical sciences.
The priority task of the Department of Internal Medicine is to improve the quality of education and training of graduates with an active lifestyle and high creative potential, capable of further educational development throughout life.
The scientific direction of the department consists in the development and implementation of modern methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive tract, as well as combined pathology.
Educational, research and practical work. The necessary conditions are created for the teaching and learning process using modern methods of education, the latest achievements of science and practice. Clinical and pathology conferences, seminars, symposia, scientific and practical conferences and other activities that contribute to improving the effectiveness of educational and therapeutic diagnostic processes and the introduction of new medical technologies are carried out.
When senior students work at the patient's bedside, the main task of the department teachers is to teach future doctors to formulate a diagnosis in several possible variants with their justification. The student's ability to see the features of the clinical course of the disease, understand how comorbidities affect the patient's condition, and formulate a basic diagnosis in a particular patient is the leading goal of training in the therapeutic clinic, which determines the subsequent medical tactics and the correct choice of drug therapy.
Each member of the department conducts career guidance work among students of secondary schools of the republic and the medical college to increase their interest in acquiring the noble and humane profession of physician.
In addition to the teaching load, the staff of the department carry out therapeutic and consultative work at clinical bases. Thanks to a favorable psychological atmosphere at the departmental bases, a special friendliness to the students, it is possible to train specialists, taking into account their opinion, with a comprehensive discussion with them difficult in terms of diagnosis of clinical cases, developing in students the basics of clinical thinking.
Currently, the department's staff continues to master new types of scientific and pedagogical activities and continuously improves their work in training highly qualified personnel for both practical health care and scientific work in the medical industry. Working in the scientific and pedagogical field, the staff of the department give their strength and knowledge to the noble cause of public health, considering it their primary duty.
Methodological work
Scientific and educational activities are inextricably linked with methodological work - preparation and publication of monographs, textbooks, guidelines, newsletters on internal medicine, gastroenterology, digestive system, etc..
Research work.
The main focus of the scientific work of the department is to study the features of the course and treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, precancerous pathology.
The scientific direction corresponds to the profile of doctors' training in the specialty - general medicine. Scientific research is carried out as part of the initiative work, as well as funded from various sources. In different years, employees of the department made reports, participated in the work of Russian and international symposiums, congresses, conventions, conferences.
Over the past 5 years, the staff of the Department of Internal Medicine has published more than 100 printed works (monographs, articles in the central, regional and local press, educational and training manuals). Every year we analyze the rating of scientific activity of teachers of the department, including the citation rate of their works in the works of other authors.
Employees of the Department of Internal Medicine Propedevtika take an active part in international, all-Russian congresses, symposiums and conferences; regional and interuniversity conferences and seminars; interactive seminars; international, national and regional exhibitions.
Student research is conducted under the supervision of experienced faculty members. Students actively participate in scientific conferences.
