Historical background



The Department of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication is a structural unit of the Faculty of Design and Linguistics at NCSA.

In 2017, a department was opened on the basis of the Department of Russian and Foreign Languages to train bachelors in the field of 45.03.02 Linguistics, specialisation (profile) ‘Translation and Translation Studies’ with a qualification of ‘Linguist’.

In 2018, in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the Academy, the department was removed from the Department of Russian and Foreign Languages and became part of the Medical Institute of NCSA. The main areas of work of the department became linguistics, professionally-oriented English (medical) and Russian as a foreign language.

In 2022, the department became part of the Faculty of Design and Linguistics with the status of a graduating department of ‘Linguistics and Intercultural Communication’.

The department successfully operates a structural subdivision, the ‘Educational Linguistic Centre’, which actively participates in preparing NCSA students for international internships. The centre also offers additional education programmes in English, French, Turkish and Chinese, with international certificates awarded in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The department implements an educational programme in the field of 45.03.02 Linguistics, specialising in Translation and Translation Studies.

The department's teachers also conduct classes in practical English for master's and postgraduate students in the following fields:

Educational programmes are implemented in three forms of study: FULL-TIME, PART-TIME, AND DISTANCE LEARNING

Another area of work for the department is ‘Russian as a Foreign Language.’ Teaching staff have the opportunity to attend annual training courses and seminars for professional growth and development. All teachers who teach Russian as a foreign language have completed advanced training courses and internships at leading universities in the field.

The department's teachers actively combine traditional teaching methods with innovative educational technologies in their work, which helps to develop the communication, information and humanities skills of future graduates.

The mission of the department is to train modern specialists who are proficient in foreign languages, think creatively, possess key communicative and social competencies, and know how to apply them effectively in the implementation of strategies at various levels.

- theoretical foundations and models of interlingual communication;


- language problems in the context of globalisation and the socio-economic structure of countries.
